RICHARD DIETER – PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT
Mr. Dieter is an attorney and award-winning writer, with years of experience working with the national media. He directed a national non-profit organization, establishing it as the number one source for information in its field. He has been quoted frequently in the nation’s major newspapers and appeared on NBC Nightly News, ABC World News, CBS Evening News, The Today Show, PBS News Hour, Fox News, CNN, C-Span, Court-TV, and many other programs. He has drafted op-eds that have appeared in the country’s top media outlets. In November 2016, he received the Frederick Douglass Human Rights Award from the Southern Center for Human Rights.
He has written 40 reports that received extensive media coverage and that are regularly cited by courts–including the U.S. Supreme Court–by legislators around the country, and by experts in the field of criminal justice. His 2015 report on military veterans received the Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust Award. He has prepared analysis for the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Civil and Constitutional Rights.
He oversaw the creation of a website that now stands at the top of its field, receiving over 1 million hits per day. The site was chosen by the U.S. Library of Congress as part of its archive of important information.
Mr. Dieter received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a masters degree from the Ohio State University. He graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, where he was one of the University’s first Public Interest Law Scholars. He served as an editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University School of Law.
